The Flat Is Back

THE FLAT IS ALMOST BACK! The first meeting of the flat season at Naas takes place on Sunday 28th March. Whilst we won’t host the opening meeting of the Irish flat season we will be bringing 8 great races, a full sponsored card. The feature races include the Lodge Park EBF Express Stakes and the listed Plusvital Devoy Stakes and four out of our eight races are sponsored by Compas Stallions. (See all races  below or to the left)

Racing TV will show live coverage of all seven races on the day and we are also delighted to have TG4 broadcasting live showing the feature and supporting races on the day. Check back on Friday 26th March to download our digital racecard.

LODGE PARK STUD will be sponsoring the Group 3 EBF Park Express Stakes on the day. The Burns family has been breeding Classic winners at their Lodge Park Stud in Kilkenny for three generations. Some of the stars born at Lodge Park Stud include Park Express (GB) (Ahonoora {GB}) one of the foundation mares the stud is probably best known.

PLUSVITAL have partnered with us again this year and will sponsor the listed Plusvital Devoy Stakes. This year will also see Plusvital extend their association where they will be kindly providing an equine care pack to all grooms in-charge of the horse that is judged the Best Turned Out throughout Naas’ 2021 Flat season which will consist of a further 11 fixtures with a minimum of 92 races.

COMPAS STALLIONS is a growing force among Irish Stallions, founded and owned by Micheal Orlandi.  Currently, there are six stallions standing at the Westmeath Stud including Galileo Chrome, My Dream Boat, Cappella Sansevero, Kuroshio, Smooth Daddy, and the newest recruit to the roster Far Above. Micheal will be sponsoring four races on the card and named after the latter four stallions listed.

IRISH EBF are the largest contributors to Irish Racing. The Irish European Breeders’ Fund has supported horseracing in Ireland since 1983 Britain by enhancing prize money for over 30 years. Last year, racing in Ireland received a timely boost from the Irish European Breeders’ Fund, with the country’s largest sponsor increasing it’s 2020 sponsorship input to €2.5 million.

Anglesey Lodge Equine Woodlands Stakes Day

A flat afternoon card featuring the Listed Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital Woodlands Stakes and the Blackwater Premier Handicap.  Past winners of the Listed contest include Sceptical, Urban Beat, Primo Uno and Washington DC in 2017.

ANGLESEY LODGE – Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital was established in 1976 by Ned Gowing MRCVS. The practice serves the Kildare and West Wicklow area and provides 24 hour service. There ambulatory veterinary surgeons offer general services to clients at their own premises and they also have the equipment and facilities at the clinic to offer specialised medical and surgical care when needed.

Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital serves both pleasure and performance horses. They offer a wide range of routine and highly specialised veterinary care. 

BBA IRELAND – We are delighted to welcome BBA Ireland, one of our longest standing sponsors, to this flat card.  BBA Ireland are sponsors of the Opera Hat Mares Chase, this year will see BBA Ireland sponsor both NH and a flat race in the form of a maiden.

BBA Ireland has been in the bloodstock business since the 1950’s. The agency has a long association with selecting top-class performers for its clients and amazingly, is responsible for the selection of not one but two of the top ten rated two-year-olds of 2020 in Cadillac and Lucky Vega for their clients Jessica Harrington’s Alpha Racing and for Mr Zhang Yuesheng.

Our new caters, LILY & WILD are selling Take-Away Picnics in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland. The picnics will be available at weekends from the 1st May at Naas Racecourse ( 2nd entrance on the Tipper Road)

The Take-Away picnics can be brought home to enjoy or eaten at a scenic spot near you. Everything you need to enjoy a day in the outdoors is beautifully prepared and presented in this Picnic. Being mindful of the environment, minimum disposables are used and instead, jars and wooden cutlery are included. Each Picnic includes an eco-friendly, reusable cooler bag, and the good news is that they are also selling a selection of gorgeous wicker baskets for purchasing. 

IRISH EBF -Every year in Ireland, the participating stallion owners pay the equivalent of an average nomination fee for each of their stallions. These funds are then targeted at Flat and National Hunt races in Ireland that are judged to support the industry.

The Irish EBF board is made up of representatives from the major contributing farms and ably led by Chairman, John O’Connor, Managing Director of Ballylinch Stud. Working closely with Horse Racing Ireland, the Irish EBF Governors’ create a programme of Irish EBF sponsored races targeted to support the Irish Racing industry. Only the progeny of EBF registered stallions can enter these races and benefit from the extra prize money.

In total, Irish EBF have contributed nearly €50 million to Irish Prize-money since 1983, with a current annual investment now over €2.5 million making Irish Stallion Farms the largest sponsor of racing in Ireland.

Royal Ascot Trials Day

Sunday 16th

The Royal Ascot Trials Day at Naas Racecourse is one of the flagship meetings in the Irish and Naas Racing calendar, especially for those preparing for Royal Ascot glory.

A number of high quality colts such as Dawn Approach, Caravaggio, Sioux Nation & Kew Gardens have all won at Naas before success at the Royal meeting. The fillies listing is equally impressive, Lillie Langtry, Sky Lantern, Winter, Quiet Reflection & Alpha Centauri.

The feature race is the Goffs Lacken Stakes (Group 3)  and the  Coolmore Irish EBF Fillies Sprint Stakes ( Group 3) There are also competitive listed races with the Owenstown Stud Stakes and Sole Power Sprint Stakes.

The increased popularity of Royal Ascot and the corresponding need for preparation races have seen the importance of Naas Royal Ascot Trials Day increase significantly.

The Lynam & Power Family kindly sponsor the Sole Power Sprint Stakes after their talented sprinter Sole Power. The son of Kyllachy had an outstanding career. He ran 65 times, 50 of those were Group races and 30 of the 50 were Group 1 races, of which he won 5, making him one of the most successful Irish Sprinters.

Royal Ascot attracts some of the worlds finest horses to compete for more than £8m in prize money. It is globally recongised as one of the best weeks in Racing. Summer Racing

Wednesday 21st

A summer evening meeting featuring the Listed Yeomanstown Stud Irish EBF Stakes and the ARQANA Irish EBF Marwell Stakes. On the raceday gates open fron 2:45pm and the first race is off at 4:15pm.  

Following the Governments announcement outdoor events can now host 500 spectators, we are thrilled to be able to have a limited amont of tickets for sale for our next meeting on Wednesday 21st July. Tickets will cost €10 (along with a €1.50 handling fee) which will go directly to our current fundraiser in aid of Barretstown.

While we endeavour to ensure our attendee’s have a great day out, we have had to make several changes to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone following all government and health guidelines. It is important to note that these race meetings will not be a typical day at Naas Racecourse. There will be limited catering and betting facilities and it will be an outdoor event with no access to indoor facilities with an exception for toilet facilities only.  

As we are very limited on tickets it will be two tickets per transaction.

Tickets will cost €10.00 which will go directly to Barretstown. There will also be a €1.50 handling fee. 

On arrival every patron must have a valid ticket with their name printed on it.

You must present a valid photo I.D. to match the name on your ticket on arrival. 

Children will also be required to have a purchased ticket in line with Covid-19 tracing requirements and you will require a photo ID on the day.

By purchasing a ticket for this event, you are accepting & agreeing to the ticketing Terms & Conditions and the Racecourse Code of Conduct.

A Bank Holiday Monday afternoon meeting featuring the second running of the richest race to be run at Naas,  The Irish EBF Ballyhane Stakes of €300,000. The exciting two-year-old median sires race will take place here at Naas Racecourse on Bank Holiday Monday, August 2nd. 

 The prize value of the race is €300,000 and is open to two-year-old’s by a sire whose median price is not more than €75,000, with allowances for sires whose median price is €50,000 or €25,000 or less. We also have a consolation race the Silver Irish EBF Ballyhane Stakes (Median Auction Race) of €50000.00.

Irish EBF Auction Series Finale Day

We have a hugely competitive card in store on this raceday with a huge prize pot up for grabs from the Irish EBF.

This year the Irish EBF Auction series, formerly co-sponsored with Foran Equine, will be run by the Irish EBF with all prize money levels upheld from April to October with twenty-five qualifiers and the €120,000 final will be held here Naas Racecourse on October 17th.
