March 6, 2018 | Jackie Donohoe
Aintree Grand National hopeful Baie Des Iles tops the weights for Sunday’s Toals.com Leinster National at Naas following Tuesday’s latest forfeit stage. Toals.com Bookmakers will sponsor the Leinster National for the first time and two supporting races, the Toals.com Free Bet If 2nd to SP Favourite at Naas Beginners Steeplechase and the Toals.com Bookmakers Casino Online Bumper.
A field of 25 potential runners have remained in the €100,000 contest including former Irish Grand National winner Thunder And Roses.
Trainer Gordon Elliott is responsible for six of the remaining entries, while champion trainer Willie Mullins may try to win a second Leinster National with stable newcomer Pairofbrowneyes.
Wexford based trainer Paul Nolan is looking forward to being represented by Fine Theatre, who is a half brother to Nolan’s high class staying chaser Joncol. Speaking on Tuesday afternoon Nolan said; “He ran a respectable race in the Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park and I’d be hopefully he could run well on Sunday at Naas if things go right for him. He seems in good form, it’s a very nice pot and the ground should suit him. I think he was still travelling well at Fairyhouse the last day when he slipped up, so hopefully he’ll be competitive.”
The highly rated Koshari, Saturnas and Tombstone all feature in the entries Grade 3 Naas Directors Plate Novice Chase, while a strong field has also assembled for the Irish Racing Writers Kingsfurze Novice Hurdle with impressive maiden hurdle winners Dis Donc, High Sparrow and Nessun Dorma all included.
This Sunday also marks Mother’s Day, mark the occasion by treating your Mother to a day at the races. Admission is just €15, visit naasracecourse.com to find out more information on our hospitality offering.
