Magnolia looks to shade it in the Blue Wind

Who’s Steph will attempt to back up her Listed success from Gowran Park six days ago when making a quick reappearance in the Irish National Stud Racing Irish EBF Blue Wind Stakes at Naas on Saturday.

Ger Lyons’ high class filly heads the field of seven declared runners for the valuable Group 3 contest in which Magnolia Springs will attempt to become the first ever English-trained winner of the race.

Magnolia Springs will be a first runner at Naas for trainer Eve Johnson-Houghton who has booked in form jockey Billy Lee for the daughter of Shamardal.

“Magnolia Springs arrived in Naas this morning (Friday) and she is in really good form,” said the trainer. “She will love the cut in the ground and we are looking forward to a good run from her. We went to France last time with her, looking for soft ground, and it was fast there. She ran really well there considering it was fast ground so we are really looking forward to a good run. I’ve never used Billy Lee before but he looks a good jockey to me and I’m very happy to have him.”

Champion trainer Aidan O’Brien has a typically strong hand, which is headed by the highly rated three-year-old Peach Tree. O’Brien’s four runners are made up by Chablis, Credenza and Delphinia, all four of which are daughters of Galileo.

Dermot Weld recently won the Blue Wind Stakes with high class fillies such as Princess Highway, Tarfasha and the Group 1 winning Zhukova and the Curragh-based trainer is represented by Tarnawa in this highly competitive renewal as the race returns to Naas.

Impressive Naas maiden winner Red Epaulette is another interesting runner on the card. The Michael O’Callaghan-trained colt will take on six maidens in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race.

Aidan O’Brien will look to land a second two-year-old maiden of the season at Naas when giving a debut to Ohio State in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden. The son of War Front is a full brother to Group 1 winner U S Navy Flag.

The first on a seven race card at Naas on Saturday is due off at 1.35pm. It is also Family Fun Day at Naas and as title sponsors on the card The Irish National Stud will also be showcasing some Living Legends on the day with Hurricane Fly and Irish Grand National winner Thunder And Roses set to parade just before the Irish National Stud Blue Wind Stakes.
