Lottie Ryan gives her top fashion tips for The Royal Ascot Trials and Ladies Day at Naas Racecourse
Broadcaster Lottie Ryan has given her top tips ahead of one the biggest racing fashion events of the summer, as she prepares to take a central role in the Royal Ascot Trials and Ladies Day at Naas Racecourse on Sunday 19th May. Lottie will be the celebrity judge for the Best Dressed Lady competition, which promises to deliver some amazing prizes to the lucky winner! Lottie will be joined by racing aficionado, Orlagh Murtagh, wife of champion jockey, turned trainer, Johnny Murtagh in her search for the Best Dressed Lady.
Lottie, who is known for her diverse sense of style which can range from polished red-carpet elegance to boho chic will add a new dimension to the Lady’s Day Competition. ‘Breaking the Mould’ is the theme for this year’s fashion competition at Naas Racecourse and the concept behind it is that racing fashion does not have to be traditional and predictable. The theme also takes in the stories of several women in sport and aims to show how young women are continually pushing the boundaries of what can often be male dominated sports.
A prize fund to the value of €8,500 will make it well worth your while to make the effort and break out your most stylish outfit to impress Lottie. The Best Dressed Lady will be granted an overnight stay with dinner in the Manor House at Palmerstown House Estate with 19 of her closest friends. If that wasn’t enough, the prize also includes a €1,000 shopping spree in Kildare Village, home to some of the world’s most luxurious and exciting fashion brands.
Meanwhile, speaking ahead of the big day Lottie Ryan said, “I’ll be eyeing up some of the best summer looks and hopefully we will see some individual, edgy outfits. Break the mould of traditional race wear
Do not be afraid to get adventurous with your style! Have a bit of fun with it and do not be afraid of standing out. Racewear should be elegant, classy and chic but do not be afraid to add your own personal touch. Be comfortable in your own skin and don’t be afraid to own it!
Think about your footwear
It is best that you can walk in the footwear you select! Being comfortable in your footwear will leave you smiling, and everyone looks better with a smile on their face.
Go easy on the fake tan
Everyone likes to have a sun kissed glow, but make sure you go easy on the fake tan. Remember the races is on during daylight hours so there is no place to hide an orange tan!
Headpiece/ Hat/ Hair Clip
Only wear what is comfortable and feels natural to you. To win best dressed lady you must own your outfit, you do not need to wear a hat that is too big or uncomfortable. A hat must suit your face and hairline too, sometimes less is more!
Be prepared
Try on your complete ensemble a few days before the races – this means trying on your chosen underwear for the day too! By doing this, you will be able to make any essential changes to your outfit and avoid any last-minute disasters on the morning of the races!

The Royal Ascot Trials Day at Naas Racecourse is one of the feature race meetings within the Irish Flat season especially for those preparing for Royal Ascot glory. This meeting at Naas is the flagship flat race day of the year and the feature race is the Group 3 Goffs Lacken Stakes. The increased popularity of Royal Ascot in recent years and the corresponding need for preparation races have seen the importance of Naas increase significantly.
